Summer things Im doing (2012)

Sawdust and PVA glue, is something Ive never tried. However being inspired by many questions that arose from seeing Karla Blacks work currently in GoMA and just curiosity over what can be done with this stuff Im going to investigate it..

I intend to have a shape that has height, because Im not able to have one that covers a large amount of ground space, due to a shared garden and normal sized rooms in my house. So Ill build upwards. The thought I have is a kind of leaning tower of sawdust.

I have found, so far that it takes a LOT of sawdust to create height. Maybe Im compacting it too much but the shape of the structure calls for it to be fairly solid. Its developing mould in parts, the coloured parts, which indicates that the food colouring it going off, adds to the interest of texture. Its a bit icky looking though. I like the solidity it has just now, still looks soft and fluffy but solid at the same time.

And I never used a box or any frame inside, no box not even a wee one. Unlike the work that inspired this little project.
